About our Vicar

Rev David GreenRev David Green is our new Vicar at St Luke's having arrived in September 2024.

Before training for ordained ministry, David worked as a New Media Manager within the publishing industry in London. He trained for ordination at Ridley Hall in Cambridge and was ordained in 2008. David holds a BA in Biblical Studies from the University of Sheffield, a Post-graduate Diploma in Ordained Ministry from Canterbury Christ-Church and a Masters in Pastoral Theology from his time at Ridley.

David started his ordained ministry as a Curate with St Philip & St James in Walderslade. He then moved to West Malling, originally to lead West Malling, Offham and Kings Hill. After St Gabriel's Kings Hill grew to a point where the church got a separate Vicar of its own, David concentrated on West Malling and Offham until 2022 when he became the 'Team Vicar' for the Kent Downs & Malling Team Ministry in which he served alongside colleagues in ministry to seven parishes in and around the West Malling area. He moved to Tunbridge Wells in 2024 to take up the post of Vicar at St Luke's.

David is married to Kerry and they have three teenage children between 15 and 19 years old. David says of himself:

"I am a relatively local boy. I grew up in Paddock Wood and perhaps unusually for some Vicars, I have had the great privilege of ministering close to home. In worship, I very much enjoy both new and old... contemporary and traditional forms of church. I didn't grow up around church and so I'm always very conscious of what it feels like to new people and I try not to assume knowledge or use too much jargon so that everyone feels welcome and included.

Given my previous work prior to ordination, I remain interested in new media. I am a movie buff and have written and spoken about the use of moving imagery and films in church worship and outreach, and I'm also a bit of an unashamed geek and muck about with computers. Those two interests combined in my Masters when I wrote a thesis on the influence of projection technology and moving imagery in Christian worship, and during a recent sabbatical, as I explored the impact of online worship on churches during the Pandemic. I am also a keen sports fan and particularly enjoy football and American football. I'm always up for a chat about the Premiership, the frustrations of watching England in major tournaments, or the NFL! I am a former season ticket holder and long-suffering fan of Tottenham Hotspur and I hold a coaching qualification with the British American Football Coaching Association and help a local American Football club in Kent when I can fit it in around ministry!"
